Removing Phone Functions from ICS on Non Mobile Devices

If you’re not using a mobile phone or a device with GSM capabilities, you might as well just remove the phone specific functions from the device, which will in fact free up quite a hefty amount of processing power even when it’s not needed at all. This means that if you’re using a set top box, you definitely don’t need these files. This isn’t very difficult but is more for the more technologically comfortable user. Depending on your device, it’s possible that the manufacturer has already removed this from their firmware.

REMOVING PHONE FUNCTIONS FROM ICS ON NON MOBILE DEVICES

Step 1: Launch the “Google Play” or “Android Market” store.

Step 2: Search for “Root Explorer (File Manager)” and install it.

Step 3: Open the application and delete the files listed below.

/system/app/Phone.apk
/system/app/Phone.odex
/system/app/Mms.apk
/system/app/Mms.odex
/system/app/TelephonyProvider.apk
/system/app/TelephonyProvider.odex

Step 4: Reboot the device.

Congratulations! You can now use your device as it was intended, instead of it giving you stupid ideas like using a television receiver as a telephone, and your device should run better as well.

NOTE: If you’re using a Pivos XIOS DS, you can Remove Phone APK files using this update file as you would to install new firmware.
