As we continue to provide you with all the information you need to get going with XBMC for Android, we figure we’d write a new guide on flashing the Pivos XIOS DS with their exclusive XBMC-Linux build, which is available in the meantime until XBMC for Android is at the point of stable release with hardware acceleration. Most people using the Pivos XIOS DS have opted to use this XBMC-Linux version because it is considered to be a more stable “Beta” version, while XBMC for the Android operating system is still in the “Alpha” stage. This XBMC-Linux doesn’t work on any device other than the Pivos XIOS DS, so don’t bother trying.
BEGINNER’S GUIDE TO INSTALLING XBMC-LINUX ON THE PIVOS XIOS DS
- Pivos XIOS DS Android TV Box
- 2 GB USB Memory Key for M1 Model
- MicroSD Card for M3 Model
PART 1 – FLASH DEVICE
Check the serial number of your device to determine whether it’s an M1 or M3:
M1 –> S/N: 0002 G X XX XX XXXX
M3 –> S/N: 0002 G M3 X XX XX XXXX
Step 2: Plug a USB Memory Key into your computer if you’re on the M1 Model, or a MicroSD Card with Adapter if you’re using the new M3 Model.
Step 3: Format the USB Memory Key to the FAT file system. New USB Memory Keys could probably skip this step.
Step 4: Copy the “update.img” file from Step 1 onto the USB Memory Key.
Step 5: Eject the USB Memory Key from your computer.
Step 6: Connect the USB Memory Key to the Pivos XIOS DS device.
Step 7: Use a Paper Clip to press down on the Reset button at the bottom of the device at the same time that you plug the electrical power source into it. Let go of the Paper Clip once you see the green Android mascot or recovery menu popup on the screen.
Step 7: Once the device reboots into XBMC, you’ll want to unplug the electrical power source as well as unplug the USB Memory Key from the device.
Step 8: Using the Paper Clip once again, hold down on the Reset button on the bottom of the device at the same time as you connect the electrical power source. Let go of the Paper Clip once you see the green Android mascot or recovery menu popup on the screen.
